Platinum Jubilee: Queen Elizabeth II pulls out of another event, will not attend Epsom Derby

05:45, Jun 04 2022

Queen Elizabeth II has pulled out of another Platinum Jubilee event.

Buckingham Palace has announced the monarch will no longer attend the Epsom Derby, a horse racing event included among her Jubilee celebrations.

The event was due to take place on Saturday (UK time).

News that she would not attend the Derby, which was widely reported in the British media, came after she was forced to pull out of another Platinum Jubilee event.

The 96-year-old skipped that event, held on day two of the four-day Jubilee celebrations, after experiencing “some discomfort” after smiling and waving to throngs of supporters from the balcony of Buckingham Palace.

Queen Elizabeth II has pulled out of another event.

Prince Charles represented the queen at the service.

He and his wife, the Duchess of Cornwall, had special chairs in the front row. Prince William and his wife, the Duchess of Cambridge, were seated next to them.

The queen also appeared outside her home at Windsor Castle for the final moments of an international beacon lighting ceremony on the first day of the Jubilee.

Moving slowly, and with some difficulty, she pressed an illuminated globe that sent a river of lights flooding towards Buckingham Palace, where a sculpture of living trees was lit up.

The queen has had trouble moving around in recent months, and has pulled out of many public events.

She had originally planned to attend a number of events across the four days of the Jubilee, which are being held to celebrate her 70 years on the throne.
