The broad, arrow-straight, tree-lined avenue was first planned at the order of France's Louis XIV.
The Avenue des Champs-Élysées (UK: /ˌʃɒ̃z eɪˈliːzeɪ, - ɛˈ-/, US: /ʃɒ̃z ˌeɪliːˈzeɪ/, French: [av(ə)ny de ʃɑ̃z‿elize] ) is an avenue in the 8th arrondissement of Paris, France, 1.9 kilometres (1.2 mi) long and 70 metres (230 ft) wide, running between the Place de la Concorde and the Place Charles de Gaulle, where the Arc de Triomphe is located. It is known for its theatres, cafés, and luxury shops, for the annual Bastille Day military parade, and as the finish of the Tour de France cycling race.
It is widely known in France as the "most beautiful avenue in the world".
The name is French for the Elysian Fields, the place for dead heroes in Greek mythology. Champs-Élysées is widely regarded to be one of the most recognisable avenues in the world.

세계에서 가장 아름다운 거리라고 불리우는 파리의 샹젤리제 거리는 성탄트리로도 유명하지만, 매년 12월 31일 자정을 즈음하여 새해를 맞이하는 멋진 쇼가 펼쳐집니다.
바로 샹젤리제 거리에 있는 개선문에서 #새해맞이 불꽃축제와 함께 신년 카운트다운 쇼가 약 30분간 샹젤리제를 다시 한 번 환~~하게 수 놓기 때문이죠.
이 행사를 보기 위하여 유럽 각지는 물론 전 세계에서 수 많은 관광객들이 몰려들어서 12월 31일, 샹젤리제의 밤거리는 불꽃 만큼이나 몰려 든 사람들로 인산인해를 이룹니다.
파리시는 이러한 조명쇼를 이용하여 사람들에게 파리시의 주요 자랑거리를 소개합니다.
대낮부터 삼삼오오 샹젤리제에 모여든 사람들은 자정이 가까워 오면서 한 손에는 샴페인을 들고, 해가 바뀌는 싯점에서 큰 소리로 카운트다운을 외치며 프렌치 키스를 하고 새 해 인사를 합니다.
게다가 1월1일 아침까지 대중교통도 무료인데, 올해는 대중교통 파업으로 고생하였죠.
