The grand finale of Wednesday's White House reception summit and press conference was the state dinner that had been catered to accommodate bilateral tastes and their shared culture.

President Yoon Suk Yeol even showed off his singing skills.

Our political correspondent Han Seong-woo shares some of those scenes.

South Korean President Yoon Suk Yeol and First Lady Kim Keon Hee were welcomed with open arms by U.S. President Joe Biden and First Lady Jill Biden to a state dinner on Wednesday at the White House, where the two leaders reaffirmed their countries' ironclad alliance.

"To our partnership, to our people, to possibilities, and to the future the Republic of Korea and the United States will create together. May we do it together for another 170 years.

" Everyone, I hope today will be remembered as the historic day the "four-leaf clover" alliance between the Republic of Korea and the United States stretches its new roots beyond the glory of the last seventy years. I propose a toast to the ironclad ROK-U.S. alliance vigorously advancing into the future.

Among the nearly 200 guests invited were several American lawmakers and governors, Korean business executives, Hollywood icon Angelina Jolie, co-founder of Home Depot Arthur Blank, “Pachinko” author Min Jin Lee, former Major League Baseball pitcher Park Chan-ho and Olympic snowboarding champion Chloe Kim.

While most guests entered from the Jacqueline Kennedy garden in the East Wing, the Bidens welcomed President Yoon and First Lady Kim on a red carpet on the steps of the North Portico.

Jill Biden recruited Korean American celebrity chef Edward Lee to whip up a menu showcasing the “best of America" with a Korean touch: crab cakes, galbi-jjim beef ribs, and, for dessert, banana splits.

At the end of the dinner, the crowd enjoyed some unexpected entertainment as President Yoon took the stage to sing a personal favorite: Don McLean's 1971 hit "American Pie" to a standing ovation.

"Well, we want to hear you sing it."

"A long, long time ago something touched me deep inside the day the music died."

Biden afterwards told Yoon he had no idea the Korean president could sing and gifted him a guitar signed by McLean himself.

State dinners are known to be among the highest diplomatic honors the U.S. bestows on visiting dignitaries.

Biden's first invitation to a state dinner went to French President Emmanuel Macron late last year.
